Rangel Vs Stevens: Both filled out their financial disclosure statements to Congress incorrectly. One is indicted on federal charges, the other remains Chairman of powerful committee

Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska is up for reelection this year and is facing felony charges for incorrectly filling out his income report to Congress. He vehemently denies the charges and prosecutors were unable to come up with more severe charges of cheating the IRS or money laundering.

Congressman Charlie Rangel of New York underreported at least $70,000 of income to Congress and still remains Chairman of the very powerful, the Ways and Means Committee which gee, uhm, oversees and sets tax policy.
